S.B. 2429 Summary

• Prohibits security guards who were discharged from law enforcement employment due to poor employment standing from possessing firearms in the course of guard employment.

• Defines "discharge due to poor employment standing" to include involuntary termination for misconduct, resignation as alternative to termination for misconduct, or resignation while under investigation or suspension.

• Requires employers to conduct prior employment background checks of prospective guard employees who previously served as law enforcement officers, requesting statements from relevant agencies about any discharges for poor employment standing.

• Mandates the Department of Public Safety, Department of Transportation, and county police departments to disclose upon request whether a prospective employee was discharged due to poor employment standing.

• Effective July 1, 2018.
