S.B. 2622 Summary

• Requires all applicants and enrollees at state-supported post-secondary institutions to comply with the federal Military Selective Service Act to be permitted enrollment and receive state-supported financial assistance.

• Prohibits any person not in compliance with the Military Selective Service Act from being eligible for employment by the State, its political subdivisions, or service on state or county boards, commissions, and agencies.

• Establishes exceptions for individuals under 18 or 26 and older, those serving in the armed forces on active duty, non-citizens and non-resident immigrants, residents of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands or Northern Mariana Islands, and those with other valid exemptions under federal law.

• Creates the "Selective Service Registration Awareness and Compliance Act" as a new chapter in the Hawaii Revised Statutes with definitions, compliance requirements, and severability provisions.

• Effective upon approval.
