HI SB2650

Requires public accommodations that own, lease, or operate motion picture theaters in more than two locations statewide to provide open movie captioning at least two showings per week of each film offered with captions.

Mandates that at least one of the two weekly open captioning showings must have a scheduled start time no earlier than 4:30 p.m. to accommodate working individuals and students.

Eliminates the alternative option that allowed theaters to provide personal closed captioning systems via lightweight eyewear devices instead of open movie captioning.

Makes the open captioning requirement permanent and removes the previous January 1, 2020 expiration date.

Effective July 1, 2035.
