SB 2669 Summary

• Codifies five State of Hawaii 2050 sustainability goals into Hawaii Revised Statutes Chapter 226: a sustainable way of life, diversified economy, responsible use of natural resources, strong community and social well-being, and perpetuation of Native Hawaiian culture and island values.

• Requires all state agencies to take action toward achieving United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 8 (decent work and economic growth) by 2030, including sustaining at least one percent annual gross domestic product growth per capita.

• Mandates state agencies to promote economic productivity through technological innovation, high-value sectors, and green jobs while decoupling economic growth from environmental degradation.

• Establishes requirements for full and productive employment for all populations, youth job training, elimination of forced labor and human trafficking, safe working environments, and sustainable tourism policies.

• Directs state agencies to strengthen domestic financial institutions to expand access to banking, insurance, and financial services for all residents.
