S.B. 2997 Summary

• Requires the Department of Education to review federal grant financial records from the past five fiscal years, including titled, discretionary, and formula-based grants.

• Department must identify all federal grants received, funds used from each grant, unused and lapsed funds, and potential alternative uses for unspent money.

• Department shall submit a comprehensive report to the legislature no later than 20 days before the 2019 regular session, including descriptions of each grant and catalog of federal domestic assistance numbers.

• Report must be distributed to the Board of Education, superintendent, state public charter school commission, relevant legislative committees, governor, state senate president, house speaker, and all county mayors.

• Takes effect upon approval.
