Home-schooled students are eligible to participate in extracurricular activities at the public school they would otherwise be required to attend, but cannot use this provision to gain geographic exceptions to attend other schools.

Home-schooled students must meet health requirements, maintain appropriate grade point averages, pay required fees, submit birth certificates and proof of residency, and be enrolled at the school by the beginning of the school year (or day of activity for military dependents).

When extracurricular activity participation exceeds available spots, priority shall be given to students attending the school over home-schooled students.

The department of education shall reimburse schools for additional expenses incurred from home-schooled student participation, with reimbursement not reducing the school's weighted student formula funding allocation.

The department may adopt rules to implement this section and establish procedures for home-schooled students to apply for extracurricular activities; a task force shall determine prioritization criteria and report findings by the first day of the 2019-2020 school year.
