Permits licensed dental hygienists to operate under general supervision of a licensed dentist instead of requiring direct supervision in most circumstances.

Under general supervision, the dentist must examine and diagnose conditions and authorize procedures, but is not required to be physically present during the procedure and remains available for consultation.

Maintains direct supervision requirement only for intra-oral block anesthesia procedures that fall within specific course content approved by the board of dental examiners.

Applies the general supervision model to dental hygienists working in offices of licensed dentists, as well as in public health settings including hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, and state/county facilities.

Takes effect upon approval.
