SB 823 Summary

• Requires all accident and health insurance policies, mutual benefit society plans, and fraternal benefit society plans to recognize naturopathic physicians licensed under chapter 455 as participating providers and cover their services to the same extent as other health care providers.

• Permits insurers and health plans to designate participating naturopathic physicians as primary care providers and requires them to be listed on publicly available primary care provider directories.

• Expands the definition of "child health supervision services" and "medical food" supervision to include naturopathic physicians alongside physicians and osteopathic physicians.

• Authorizes the insurance commissioner to receive and investigate complaints regarding violations of non-discrimination provisions under the federal Public Health Service Act.

• Effective June 1, 2050.
