S.B. 975 Summary

• Creates a new misdemeanor offense for any person who sells or purchases a fraudulently manufactured or altered disability parking placard, or who buys or sells removable windshield placards, temporary removable windshield placards, or special license plates outside of legal compliance channels.

• Explicitly authorizes law enforcement officers and commissioned volunteer enforcement officers to confiscate removable windshield placards, temporary removable windshield placards, and special license plates that are fraudulently manufactured, altered, or used without authorization.

• Clarifies that law enforcement may also confiscate invalid (expired or voided) disability parking permits when displayed or used to obtain parking privileges.

• Defines "invalid" as expired or voided removable windshield placards, temporary removable windshield placards, or special license plates for purposes of confiscation authority.

• Effective date is January 1, 2018.
