Department of Health directed to convene a task force to identify barriers and solutions to expanded water reuse in Hawaii.

Task force composed of 11 members including representatives from Department of Health, Board of Land and Natural Resources, Board of Agriculture, Hawaii Community Foundation, county agencies, state legislative committees, and the Legislative Reference Bureau.

Task force requested to review water reuse regulations in other states and countries, examine proposed policy changes for Hawaii, and identify and rank potential water reuse demonstration projects.

Task force must report findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than 20 days before the 2019 Regular Session convenes.

State aims to increase water reuse by 30 million gallons per day by 2030 to address declining rainfall (22% decrease over past 30 years) and ensure long-term freshwater security.
