Department of Education must submit a report to the legislature on physical education status in Hawaii's public schools no later than 20 days before the 2019 Regular Session convenes.

Report must include current state of physical education in grades K-12, including instructional minutes per week, personnel qualifications, and student achievement assessment methods.

Report must include a plan for adopting current national recommendations, with estimates of needs and resources for updated standards, increased instructional time, professional development, and curriculum implementation.

Resolution notes Hawaii's Content and Performance Standards III for physical education have not been updated since 2005 and do not align with National Physical Education Standards developed in 2013.

National health organizations recommend 150 minutes per week of physical education for elementary students and 225 minutes per week for middle and high school students throughout the school year.
