Department of Health requested to convene a task force to identify barriers and solutions to expanded water reuse across Hawaii.

Task force composed of 11 members including representatives from Department of Health, Board of Land and Natural Resources, Commission on Water Resource Management, Board of Agriculture, Hawaii Community Foundation, county agencies, and legislative committees.

Task force directed to collaborate with federal, state, and county agencies; review water reuse regulations from other states and countries; examine proposed policy language for Hawaii; and identify potential demonstration projects.

Task force required to submit findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than 20 days before the 2019 Regular Session convenes.

Resolution addresses Hawaii's declining freshwater supplies due to reduced rainfall (22% decrease over 30 years), population growth, and increased demand, with goal of increasing water reuse by 30 million gallons per day by 2030.
