HB 154 Summary

• Amends Hawaii Revised Statutes Section 481X-2 to expand the definition of "service contract" to include motor vehicle-specific repair and replacement services effective July 1, 2020.

• Adds new definition of "road hazard" to include potholes, rocks, wood debris, metal parts, glass, plastic, curbs, and composite scraps encountered while driving.

• Permits service contracts to cover tire or wheel repair/replacement from road hazard damage, paintless dent removal, windshield repair or replacement from road hazards, and motor vehicle key or key-fob replacement if lost, stolen, or inoperable.

• Allows the Insurance Commissioner to approve other motor vehicle services not specifically listed if consistent with chapter provisions.

• Takes effect July 1, 2019, with the substantive amendments to service contract scope taking effect July 1, 2020.
