HB 622 Summary

• Prohibits individuals from serving on the State Public Charter School Commission if they were affiliated with any public charter school within one year before appointment, defining "affiliated" as current or previous employment, board membership, or vendor/contractor relationships.

• Requires authorizers to select three independent auditors from which each charter school shall choose one auditor to conduct annual independent financial audits, eliminating the option for financial reviews in lieu of audits.

• Mandates charter schools provide authorizers full access to fiscal and accounting books, documents, and files upon request as part of ongoing oversight and monitoring.

• Prohibits authorizer employees and representatives from simultaneously serving as employees, trustees, vendors, or contractors for charter schools authorized by that same authorizer, and requires authorizer members to disclose prior affiliations with charter schools.

• Effective July 1, 2019.
