State Parks Division of the Department of Land and Natural Resources shall conduct a feasibility study on employing residential caretakers at high-use hiking trails to assist hikers and reduce rescue operations.

Feasibility study must analyze potential benefits, cost projections for housing and compensation, identify optimal placement locations, and consider the National Park Service resident workforce model.

Study findings and recommendations, including proposed legislation, must be submitted to the legislature no later than twenty days before the 2020 regular session convenes.

General revenues are appropriated for fiscal year 2019-2020 to fund the feasibility study (specific dollar amount left blank in the bill).

Act becomes effective July 1, 2019.
