Requires health inspectors to educate food establishment owners and managers about food donation liability protections under Chapter 145D during inspections.

Allows the donation of perishable and nonperishable food from institutions that comply with commercial food safety requirements if the donor reasonably believes the food is fit for human consumption.

Protects good-faith food donors from civil and criminal liability for injuries or illnesses resulting from donated food, except in cases of gross negligence or wanton acts or omissions.

Extends liability protections to charitable, religious, and nonprofit organizations that receive and distribute donated food in good faith to needy persons at no charge.

Effective July 1, 2019.
