May 2018 Kilauea eruption destroyed approximately 700 homes in Hawaii's Puna district and significantly impacted the already minimal road system through closure of major thoroughfares due to lava flow

Papaya farms in the Puna district that remain intact are experiencing significant revenue decreases due to long, arduous routes causing work delays and increased transportation costs

Residents of the Puna district whose homes survived the eruption face substantial stress and costs from having to travel extensive distances to reach their properties

Hawaii County is urged to create alternate routes to properties in the Puna district that were affected but not destroyed by the 2018 eruption

Certified copies of the resolution are to be transmitted to the Mayor of Hawaii County, the Chairperson of the Hawaii County Council, and the Division Chief of the Highway Maintenance Division
