Hawaii Community Development Authority is requested to study properties in and around the Kakaako community development district to recommend appropriate sites for a new fire station meeting Honolulu Fire Department specifications.

Authority is requested to identify ways and means to construct a fire station on recommended sites for use by the City and County of Honolulu.

Authority is requested to examine the feasibility of relocating or expanding existing fire stations in or around Kakaako as alternatives to constructing a new station.

Hawaii Community Development Authority must submit findings and recommendations to the Legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2020.

Kakaako's residential population is projected to increase from twenty thousand to over forty thousand by 2030, with responses from Fire Station 9 increasing more than 327 percent from 2001 to 2018, necessitating additional emergency response capacity.
