HCR 225 Summary

• Establishes a twenty-first century privacy law task force to examine and recommend laws and regulations relating to internet privacy, data collection, transmission, processing, protection, storage, and sale of personal data, hacking, and data breaches.

• Task force shall comprise six members: one Senate member designated by the President of the Senate (co-chair), Chair of the House Committee on Judiciary (co-chair), Attorney General, Director of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Chief Information Officer, and Prosecuting Attorney of the City and County of Honolulu.

• Task force recommendations must match or exceed the intent of Hawaii's existing privacy protections established in the State Constitution and Hawaii Revised Statutes.

• Task force co-chairs may invite other interested parties to participate and members serve without compensation.

• Task force must submit a report with findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than December 1, 2019.
