Request the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism to establish an Artificial Intelligence Working Group to examine AI applications, competitive advantages, risks, and research opportunities in Hawaii.

Working group to address five key issues: current AI applications in other jurisdictions, competitive advantages for Hawaii's economy and government, potential dangers of AI integration, methods to encourage AI research and development in the University of Hawaii system and private business, and other relevant emerging issues.

Working group membership to include chairs of relevant Senate and House committees, the DBEDT Director, University of Hawaii at Manoa Information and Computer Sciences Department Chair, two individuals from Hawaii-based private companies engaged in AI research, and representatives from federal entities or American companies with computer science expertise.

Interim report due to the Legislature 20 days before the 2021 Regular Session convening, with findings, recommendations, and proposed legislation; final report due 20 days before the 2022 Regular Session convening.

Certified copies of the resolution to be transmitted to specified state and university officials overseeing business development, technology, and relevant legislative committees.
