HCR 55 Summary

• Governor is requested to convene a Department of the Environment and Consolidation of State Environmental Functions Working Group with 12 specified members including the Governor, Directors of Health and Business/Economic Development, Board of Land and Natural Resources Chairperson, and representatives from labor unions and nonprofits.

• Working group is attached to the Governor's office for administrative purposes and is chaired by the Governor or a designee.

• Working group must consider and make recommendations on consolidating all existing state departments, divisions, agencies, and offices that address environmental issues into a single Department of the Environment.

• Working group is required to submit findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than 60 days before the 2021 Regular Session convenes.

• Working group shall cease to exist after June 30, 2021.
