Department of Health requested to provide analysis and recommendations on establishing a certification process, oversight board, and reimbursement process for community health workers

DOH urged to analyze existing state policies on community health worker certification and study feasibility of designating a state agency or community health workers association for oversight

DOH recommended to suggest legislation supporting certification and propose best practices including contract language and budget management recommendations

Nine competency standards for certification consideration include oral/written communication, cultural competency, health care navigation, advocacy skills, teaching ability, outreach knowledge, health literacy, ethics/confidentiality understanding, and health information technology

Department of Health to report findings and recommendations to Legislature no later than twenty days prior to convening of 2021 Regular Session
