House Resolution 20 commends the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawai'i for supporting and advancing Hawaiian culture and the Hawaiian community (lāhui).

The mission was established in 1889 to serve Japanese immigrants in Hawai'i and became a spiritual and cultural center and one of the most influential religious communities in the islands.

The mission created the "Living Treasures of Hawai'i" program in 1976 to recognize individuals who have demonstrated excellence and made significant contributions to enriching Hawaiian society.

The resolution acknowledges that the mission has woven Hawaiian heritage and culture respectfully into its Buddhist teachings of Jodo Shinshu Buddhism.

The Hawai'i State Legislature Native Hawaiian Caucus extends warm aloha and best wishes to the Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawai'i for continued success.
