Director of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism is requested to convene a task force to develop and implement initiatives recognizing and honoring former President Barack H. Obama, his historic legacy, and his impact on the Nation and State.

Task force membership includes the Governor, Senate President, Speaker of the House, Director of Business Economic Development and Tourism, Hawaii Tourism Authority CEO, Office of Hawaiian Affairs CEO, University of Hawaii President, Honolulu Mayor, County Mayors of Hawaii/Kauai/Maui, and one community member appointed by the Governor.

Task force members are to serve without compensation but may be reimbursed for expenses including travel.

Task force shall examine establishing a planning and coordinating agency for state-sponsored events honoring former President Obama, soliciting funding from public and private sources, and accepting appropriations and donations.

Task force is requested to submit a report to the Legislature no later than 20 days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2020, including progress, proposed activities, plans, recommendations, and any proposed legislation.
