Department requested to recommend legislation supporting certification and best practices related to community health workers, including contract language and budget management recommendations.

Nine competency standards for certification identified for Department consideration: oral and written communication, cultural competency, local resource identification, advocacy skills, teaching ability, outreach knowledge, health literacy, ethics/confidentiality understanding, and health information technology competency.

Department of Health required to report findings and recommendations to the Legislature no later than twenty days prior to the 2021 Regular Session convening.
