HI SB12

Authorizes the Department of Education to develop and implement a housing voucher program for full-time teachers employed at hard-to-fill public schools, including public charter schools.

Each housing voucher shall not exceed a specified monthly amount and may be used toward rent or mortgage payments for the teacher's primary residence.

Requires the department to develop application procedures, processes, and forms necessary to implement the program, including verification of applicant status as a full-time teacher at a hard-to-fill school.

Housing vouchers are renewable for one additional year if the applicant submits proof of continued employment as a full-time teacher.

The department may adopt rules under chapter 91 to implement the program, with the act taking effect on July 1, 2052.
