S.B. 1495 Summary

• Authorizes the Office of Hawaiian Affairs (OHA) to intervene in quiet title actions upon official action of its board of trustees when any portion of the claimed land is kuleana land.

• Adds intervention authority to OHA's powers and duties under Hawaii Revised Statutes section 10-5 by adding it as a new enumerated power of the board of trustees.

• Amends section 669-1 to establish subsection (f) allowing OHA intervention in quiet title actions involving kuleana land as defined in section 669-2(e).

• Declares legislative intent that the Act shall not diminish or restrict native Hawaiian rights under Article XII, section 7 of the Hawaii State Constitution.

• Takes effect on March 15, 2094.
