Office of Hawaiian Affairs shall convene a task force to develop policies, procedures, and recommendations for appropriate use of Hawaiian language in state and county documents, letterhead, emblems, and symbols.

Task force shall be composed of equal numbers of native Hawaiian speakers (first or primary language) and Hawaiian speakers who acquired the language through academic or other study, selected by the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.

Task force shall determine appropriate sources for authenticating Hawaiian language usage and syntax, and establish a process for reviewing Hawaiian language documents and symbols.

Task force members serve without compensation and are exempt from Hawaii Revised Statutes section 84-17 solely due to their task force participation.

Office of Hawaiian Affairs shall submit a report to the 2020 Legislature no later than twenty days before the regular session convenes, including task force findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation; task force ceases to exist June 30, 2020.
