Request the Governor to prioritize planting four million trees along streets and roadways within the next four years to address climate change and create complete streets statewide.

Trees absorb up to 48 pounds of carbon dioxide annually and can sequester one ton of carbon dioxide by age 40, while also filtering air pollutants and particulates.

Complete streets are safe, integrated transportation networks that support pedestrian and bicycle activity, reduce vehicle emissions, and increase traffic safety.

Tree-lined streets reduce vehicle speeds and crash severity while beautifying neighborhoods and supporting healthy, sustainable communities.

Transmit certified copies of the resolution to the Governor, Director of Transportation, Director of the Office of Planning, and county mayors of Maui, Kauai, Hawaii, and Honolulu.
