Office of Hawaiian Affairs is requested to conduct a study on the significance of traditional Hawaiian practices and their effect on perpetuating Native Hawaiian culture.

Study scope shall include the significance of makahiki, its impact on continuation of Native Hawaiian cultural practices, and the need for continuation of makahiki practices for preserving Native Hawaiian culture for future generations.

Makahiki games referenced include ulu maika, oo ihe, hukihuki, pa uma, and haka moa, which demonstrate Hawaiian warrior strength and keep Native Hawaiians connected to their cultural roots.

Office of Hawaiian Affairs must submit findings to the Legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2020.

A certified copy of the concurrent resolution shall be transmitted to the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.
