Department of Education requested to convene a working group to identify factors and resources needed to sustain current and future robotics programs in public schools

Working group to evaluate the current state of robotics from kindergarten through post-secondary education, including barriers and enabling factors for student participation

Working group to identify resources needed for program sustainability, methods to track student participation and college/career readiness outcomes, and opportunities for hosting national and international robotics competitions in Hawaii

Working group membership to include Department of Education STEM specialists, University of Hawaii College of Engineering representative, robotics program coordinators (FIRST Robotics, VEX Robotics, underwater ROV, drone programs), Hawaii Tourism Authority, Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, private industry representatives, and classroom teachers from all islands

Working group to submit findings, recommendations, and any proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the 2020 Regular Session convenes
