S.C.R. No. 34 Summary

• Department of Accounting and General Services is requested to conduct a study on rehabilitation and renovation alternatives for the State Capitol reflecting pool, which is listed on the Hawaii and National Registers of Historic Places.

• Study must address repair of existing damage, restoration of the pool and related building elements, waterproofing to prevent water infiltration into occupied spaces and basement parking, and reduction of water volume and consumption.

• Study must conform to the Secretary of the Interior's standards for rehabilitation of historic places and identify ways to constrain costs within budget estimates of $1.2 million for design and $14 million for construction.

• Study must be conducted in collaboration with the State Historic Preservation Division, University of Hawaii School of Architecture, Hawaii State Council of the American Institute of Architects, and Department of Accounting and General Services.

• Department must submit completed study to the Legislature for comment and approval; certified copies to be transmitted to the Comptroller, State Capitol Management Committee chair, and other relevant officials.
