Office of Hawaiian Affairs is requested to conduct a study on the significance of traditional Hawaiian practices and their effect on the perpetuation of Native Hawaiian culture.

Study scope shall include the significance of the makahiki, its impact on continuation of Native Hawaiian cultural practices, and the need for continuation of makahiki practices to preserve and perpetuate Native Hawaiian culture for future generations.

Makahiki games referenced include ulu maika, oo ihe, hukihuki, pa uma, and haka moa, which demonstrate Hawaiian warrior strength and connect Native Hawaiians to their cultural roots.

Office of Hawaiian Affairs must submit its findings to the Legislature no later than twenty days prior to the convening of the Regular Session of 2020.

A certified copy of the resolution shall be transmitted to the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Office of Hawaiian Affairs.
