The Board of Water Supply responded to 326 water main breaks during fiscal year 2016, with more than 1,500 breaks reported between 2012 and 2017.

Water main breaks have caused road and lane closures resulting in traffic congestion, with traffic mitigation efforts often improperly executed and interrupting daily commutes.

Request that public water utilities consider disruption to traffic and transportation as a criterion when prioritizing maintenance and infrastructure upkeep planning.

Certified copies of the resolution directed to the Manager and Chief Engineer of the Honolulu Board of Water Supply, and respective water department managers for Maui, Kauai, and Hawaii counties.
