S.R. NO. 52 - Summary

• Encourages the Department of Education and other agency and community stakeholders to continue meeting as a working group for sexual violence prevention education in public schools.

• Requests the working group submit progress reports and policy recommendations to the Legislature and Board of Education at least 20 days before the Regular Sessions of 2020 and 2021.

• Acknowledges that more than half of Hawaii's sexual assault center clients experienced abuse before age 18 and Hawaii youth experience sexual violence at rates equal to or higher than mainland counterparts.

• References "Erin's Law" prevention programs implemented in 35 other states and Guam as a model for comprehensive child sexual abuse prevention education.

• Directs certified copies of the resolution be transmitted to the Chair of the Board of Education and Superintendent of Education.
