Requests all public elementary, intermediate, and middle schools in Hawaii to participate in the Safe Routes to School program established under HRS Section 291C-3

Safe Routes to School is a federally-funded program created by Section 1404 of the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act of 2005 and administered in Hawaii by the Department of Transportation

Eligible program activities include planning, design, and construction of sidewalk improvements, traffic calming measures, pedestrian and bicycle crossing improvements, bike lanes, bike parking, and traffic diversion improvements within approximately two miles of schools

Program aims to increase the number of students walking and biking to school, improve student safety, and increase keiki health and physical activity levels

Directs transmission of certified copies of the resolution to the Chairperson of the Board of Education, Superintendent of Education, and Director of Transportation
