H.B. 1231 Summary

• Appropriates funds to the University of Hawaii for fiscal year 2020-2021 to support international college experience programs for enrolled students at University of Hawaii campuses or community colleges.

• Programs may be organized by University of Hawaii community colleges or four-year campuses to expand opportunities for students to study at universities in the Philippines, China, Japan, Korea, and other Asia-Pacific nations.

• Requires the University of Hawaii to collaborate with the Department of Business, Economic Development, and Tourism in implementing the programs.

• University of Hawaii must submit a report to the legislature no later than twenty days before the 2021 regular session detailing fund usage, findings, recommendations, and identifying participating campuses.

• Effective date is July 1, 2050.
