HI HB1559

Authorizes the Hawaii Community Development Authority (HCDA) to permit one building per approved master plan area in the Kakaako Mauka district to exceed the current 418-foot height limit and reach up to 768 feet.

Requires the tall building to be located near a planned Honolulu rail transit station (specific distance to be determined).

Mandates the HCDA negotiate appropriate and proportional public benefits as a condition for permit approval, including additional residential units.

Finds that varying building heights will create a more aesthetically-pleasing urban skyline and support transit-oriented development principles in the urban core.

Takes effect on July 1, 2050.
