Amends Hawaii Revised Statutes Section 137-2 to require government entities to seek reimbursement for search and rescue expenses from persons who enter closed areas or hiking trails marked with closure notices.

Government entities must pursue reimbursement from the person rescued, their estate, guardians, or responsible entities, as well as any entity responsible for placing the person in danger.

Reimbursement is required when the need for rescue was caused by a person leaving a marked hiking trail to enter closed state, county, or private property, or by entering a closed hiking trail.

Does not affect rights, duties, penalties, or proceedings that began before the effective date.

Takes effect July 1, 2050.
