Expands Hawaii Revised Statutes Section 302A-1140 to require the Board of Education to release students from school attendance for observing religious practices beyond just religious holy days.

Absences for observing religious holy days remain excused absences that count toward attendance computations.

Absences for observing other religious practices (defined as "a significant event connected with a deeply held religious belief") shall not be counted as an absence of any kind and shall not prevent students from achieving perfect attendance.

Both types of religious observance absences require a written request from a parent, guardian, or person having custody or control of the student.

Effective date: July 1, 2050.
