HI HB2001

Adds a new offense category to Hawaii manslaughter law: causing death of another person through wilful and wanton disregard of the need to exercise reasonable care that is likely to cause foreseeable grave injury or harm.

Expands manslaughter prosecutions beyond existing recklessness standard (subsection a) and intentional suicide causation (subsection b) to include the new wilful and wanton disregard standard (subsection c).

Provides that the manslaughter statute shall not apply to actions taken under chapter 327L (relating to end-of-life care).

Does not affect rights, duties, penalties, or proceedings that began before the Act's effective date.

Takes effect on July 1, 2050.
