HI HB2017

Adds the Hawaiian Homes Commission and Department of Hawaiian Home Lands to the list of entities exempt from the requirement that the Attorney General provide all legal representation to state departments.

Allows the Hawaiian Homes Commission and Department of Hawaiian Home Lands to retain independent legal counsel while also permitting use of the Attorney General's services when the interests of the State and these entities are aligned.

Requires the State to pay legal fees owed to independent counsel retained by the Hawaiian Homes Commission or Department of Hawaiian Home Lands.

Excludes attorneys employed by the Hawaiian Homes Commission or Department of Hawaiian Home Lands from the requirement to be deputy attorneys general.
