HB 2203 Summary

• Requires the Department of Education board to annually review and publicly report data on student exclusions from school, including suspension and expulsion cases disaggregated by student demographics (race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, English language learner status, disability status, age, and grade).

• Mandates that the superintendent annually review discipline data to identify disproportionate impacts on protected student groups and respond appropriately to address any identified disparities.

• Requires the department to submit annual reports to the board describing actions taken to address discipline disparities, or confirming no disparity was found for particular schools or complex areas.

• Allows data publication only when student subgroups contain more than five students, with personally identifiable information kept private.

• Takes effect July 1, 2050.
