Requires all individuals hired as dental assistants on or after January 1, 2020, to hold cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification and complete a two-semester American Dental Association-accredited program.

Requires all dental assistants employed as of July 1, 2019, to obtain cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification by January 1, 2020.

Requires dental assistants employed less than five years as of July 1, 2019, to provide proof of enrollment in an accredited two-semester dental assistant program by January 1, 2020.

Exempts dental assistants employed for at least five years as of July 1, 2019, from education requirements if they have no history of complaints filed with the board of dentistry.

Specifies 16 allowable dental assistant practices under direct supervision of a licensed dentist and 21 prohibited practices that constitute irreversible changes or require dentist or dental hygienist credentials.
