HB 2402 Summary

• Adds a new section to Chapter 78, Hawaii Revised Statutes, establishing up to 8 hours of paid leave on an employee's birthday anniversary during even-numbered years.

• Paid leave on birthday anniversaries does not count against vacation or sick leave benefits and must not interfere with work unit operations or require overtime costs.

• Birthday leave is granted on the following Monday if the birthday falls on Sunday, the preceding Friday if it falls on Saturday, and on an adjacent business day if it falls on a designated holiday.

• Repeals the provision designating election days as state holidays in Hawaii.

• Takes effect upon approval.
