HB 472 Summary

• Requires the Executive Office on Aging to coordinate with the University of Hawaii Center on Aging to develop and implement an active aging initiative based on "Hawaii's 2020 Vision: The State of Active Aging" released in November 2013.

• Establishes an active aging advisory committee composed of state agency directors, representatives from each county, business representatives, nonprofit organizations, and academic institutions focused on elderly populations.

• Requires the advisory committee to review and update Hawaii's active aging vision document by September 30, 2021, including sections on employment, education, volunteering, wellness opportunities, encore career training, and promotion of aging-friendly communities.

• Directs the advisory committee to submit a preliminary report to the kupuna caucus by June 30, 2020, and a final report with recommendations and proposed legislation to the legislature by September 30, 2021.

• Appropriates funds from the state general revenues for fiscal year 2019-2020 to develop and implement the active aging initiative, effective July 1, 2019.
