H.B. 667 Summary

• Amends Hawaii Revised Statutes Section 329-38 to allow electronic prescriptions for controlled substances to use either words or figures to indicate quantity (e.g., "five" or "5"), instead of requiring both words and figures.

• Maintains the requirement that non-electronic controlled substance prescriptions must use both words and figures to indicate the amount of controlled substance to be dispensed.

• Applies to prescriptions for gamma hydroxybutyric acid, methadone, buprenorphine, and all other controlled substances where electronic prescriptions are permitted.

• Takes effect July 1, 2050, with a provision that amendments are not repealed when the statute is reenacted on June 30, 2023.
