H.C.R. 12 Summary

• Requests the Chairperson of the Hawaiian Homes Commission to convene a task force to assess all outstanding claims related to the Hawaiian Homes Commission Act of 1920.

• Task force membership includes the Comptroller, Hawaiian Homes Commission Chairperson, Director of Department of Hawaiian Home Lands, Attorney General, Director of Finance, Office of Hawaiian Affairs representative, and up to three additional stakeholder representatives.

• Task force directed to review outstanding issues from Act 14 (1995), investigate claims under Hawaii Revised Statutes chapter 673 that arose after July 1, 1988, and review the status of elements such as the Mauna Kea Access Road.

• Task force must submit a report to the Legislature no later than twenty days before the 2021 Regular Session convenes and shall be dissolved on June 30, 2021.

• Task force members are exempt from Hawaii Revised Statutes chapter 84 (conflict of interest laws) solely due to their participation on the task force.
