HCR 158 Summary

• Requests the Department of Transportation to establish a task force to examine metric system use in Hawaii, including distance and speed measurements on public signs and problems encountered by tourists from metric-based countries.

• Task force shall be chaired by the Director of Transportation and include representatives from Business/Economic Development/Tourism, Hawaii Tourism Authority, Department of Agriculture Quality Assurance Division, and one member each from the Senate and House of Representatives.

• Task force members may recommend additional members with relevant expertise, subject to chairperson approval.

• Department of Transportation shall provide administrative and clerical support to the task force.

• Task force must submit findings, recommendations, and proposed legislation to the Legislature no later than 60 days before the 2021 Regular Session convenes.
