H.C.R. NO. 170 - Dillingham Airfield Lease

• Dillingham Airfield consists of 272 acres within the Dillingham Military Reservation and is currently operated by the Hawaii Department of Transportation under a five-year lease from the United States Army.

• The Hawaii Department of Transportation's existing lease is set to conclude on June 30, 2020, and the department decided not to renew under current terms.

• Ending the lease will negatively impact local businesses and tenants at the airfield, as management will revert to the United States Army and commercial activity will likely cease.

• Short-term leases have prevented necessary investment in airfield maintenance and construction, limiting the facility's potential as a center for aviation training, youth programs, and small businesses.

• Urges the federal government and United States Department of the Army to offer a fifty-year lease to the Hawaii Department of Transportation to enable continued operation and sustainable investment at Dillingham Airfield.
